Plateia AI is a grassroots, independent initiative committed to making artificial intelligence accessible, inclusive, and transparent for everyone in Greece. Born from a collective effort of researchers, educators, and citizens, Plateia AI aims to bridge the gap between technology and society by fostering open dialogue, education, and collaboration. Our digital platform serves as a public space where people can explore AI developments, connect with others, and contribute to a shared understanding of how AI shapes our world.
Our Mission
Our mission is to make artificial intelligence accessible, inclusive, and transparent for everyone in Greece. We aim to build a vibrant, community-driven ecosystem that connects people, ideas, and resources across education, research, and civic life. By promoting open knowledge, fostering dialogue, and empowering individuals to engage critically and creatively with AI, Plateia AI works to ensure that technological progress benefits society as a whole.
Our Team
Kostis Saitas Zarkias
Kostis Saitas Zarkias is a Senior AI Research Εngineer focused on Responsible AI applications, currently working at Mozilla. He has extensive experience working at AI startups, has published academic papers, holds a M.Sc in Machine Learning from KTH, Sweden and a B.Sc in Computer Science from AUTh, Greece. Kostis is engaged in non-profit organizations (board member of Stockholm AI, founder of Plateia AI), multidisciplinary collaborations with creatives and actively involved in organizing and leading seminars around AI ethics, privacy and open-source software.
Vivian Stamou
Vivian Stamou is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Archimedes Unit and a Research Associate at the Institute for Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center. She received her PhD in Computational Psycholinguistics from the Department of Philology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, for which she received support from the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). She holds a Master's degree in Computational Linguistics from the Institute for Natural Language Processing (IMS) of the University of Stuttgart. Her doctoral research focuses on the detection of depression in Modern Greek. Her research interests concern the interaction of psychology and language, including the study of mental health disorders, such as depression, the representation and modeling of low-resource languages, and evaluation of highly subjective phenomena, such as the offensive language detection.
Nikos Tsikouras
Nikos is a PhD student specializing in theoretical Machine Learning. He holds a M.Sc. in Statistics from Imperial College of London and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Patras. He is involved in the Greek AI community as a member of the organizing committee of the Panhellenic AI Competition (PDTN). He has also represented Greece as a team leader at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in China. He is also involved in AI education, helping support programs that make AI learning more accessible in Greece.
Stella Katsarou
Stella is an AI/ML Research Engineer with a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Machine Learning. She specializes in NLP/LLMs, large-scale model training, and recommender systems.
Konstantinos Soiledis
Konstantinos is a PhD candidate specializing in Machine Learning for Audio and Music (HMU). He holds an M.Sc. in Data Science from Tilburg University and a B.Sc. in Economics from Panteion University. He has experience participating in educational programs aimed at teaching data analysis (Curious IQ) to vulnerable groups, as well as in general activities for teenagers and children (Animation/Club Agia Anna).
